The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has announced the results of its 78th annual United States and Canadian Fellowship competition. The 2002 Fellowship winners include 184 artists, scholars and scientists, selected from over 2800 applicants for awards totaling $6,750,000. The seven lucky photographers chosen to receive Fellowships are: Marion Belanger, Dawoud Bey, Elinor Carucci, Mitch Epstein, Kenro Izu, Tanya Marcuse and Madoka Takagi.
William L. Fox was selected as a Fellow in the category of Photography Studies. According to Joel Conarroe, Foundation President, the Guggenheim Foundation has granted more than $200 million in Fellowships to over 15,000 individuals since 1925.
