Adolescence, Winter, 1996
This curriculum for high school students addresses the link between society's preoccupation with the perfect body and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. The lessons and activities focus on improving students' body image. Students use class discussions, cooperative learning groups, and worksheets to analyze media messages about body image, identify feelings about their physical characteristics, and develop skills that help them choose good nutrition and exercise over fad diets.
Students learn the specific symptoms of anorexia and bulimia and are encouraged to develop a positive body image that helps prevent these and other dangerous eating disorders.
