Teacher to teacher: tips for using Science World in the classroom
Science World, Nov 13, 2006
Want to help students learn more about science careers?
Kathleen Heidenreich, a science teacher at Chinook Middle School in Lacey, Washington, suggests: There are so many fascinating science careers that students might not have heard of. To help broaden their views, I create a job bulletin board. I select science careers that students may find cool or exciting, or that may prompt them to say: "Wow, that takes science?" For each career, I put up photos related to the field, a job description, as well as education requirements.
You can also turn this tip into a classroom activity. Have students help research and create entries on the bulletin board. (See work sheet on TE 6.)
