Dakhla Oasis, Egypt, 1993
Advocate, The, Oct 26, 2004
Christopher Roehrs took this stark shot at an oasis 200 miles inland from the Nile River. The area looks much the same now as it did a decade ago. "When I took the photo I'd just completed many months of teaching English in Tokyo and was looking for some solitude. The Dakhla Oasis hosts several Nubian villages, and, as you can see from the photo, technology takes a backseat to nature.
I was able to spend many unhurried days bathing in the areas many hot springs, wandering around the dunes on camelback, and enjoying the intense canopy of stars each night."
