Geffen's generosity - People - David Geffen, film maker - Brief Article

Advocate, The,  June 11, 2002

It was a fitting gift from a man who co-owns a company called DreamWorks. Openly gay Hollywood mogul David Geffen announced May 7 that he is donating $200 million to the medical school at the University of California Los Angeles--the largest single donation ever given to a U.S. medical school. The 50-year-old school will be renamed the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

"This is a university's dream kind of gift," said UCLA chancellor Albert Carnesale, adding that the money will go toward training medical scientists, research, and providing financial aid for students.
