Dutch prince is no queen - rumours forces a statement - Brief Article
Advocate, The, March 27, 2001
In a highly unusual announcement from a royal court--even in the Netherlands--Prince Johan Friso issued a statement February 14 assuring his subjects of his heterosexuality. The Dutch press has speculated about the 32-year-old prince's sexual orientation for months. One newspaper announced that the prince, who works in London for the investment bank Goldman Sachs, "has not been seen in the company of any girlfriend in recent years." Government spokesman Eef Brouwers said the prince was upset by recent reports that his younger brother Constantijn was being considered as next candidate behind older brother Willem-Alexander to follow Queen Beatrix to the throne because Johan is gay.
"He's fed up with these rumors," Brouwers said. "He's not a homosexual."
