ADVOCATE POLL

SPONSORED BY SAAB

In the February 27 issue, readers were asked:

Do you think that abolishing the death penalty should be a goal of the gay rights movement?

* "No. I think the attempt to create a monolithic gay political ideal is impossible and wastes energy and attention on issues that are actually divisive."

* "Yes. When was the last time a wealthy white heterosexual male was executed?"

* "The death penalty would probably serve some gay bashers right; however, it's an issue that affects all people and is better left to groups for whom it is their sole cause."

* "Don't we already have enough on our plate?"

* "Homophobic injustice in the courtroom is wrong and must be eliminated. but abolishing the death penalty will do nothing to accomplish that."

* "Yes. Prosecutors know that the defendant a jury is most likely to put to death is the one who is marginal, an outsider. If we are to insist upon the value of our lives, we must steadfastly defend the value of all lives."
