Whether she's playing cross-gender alien Sally Solomon in 3rd Rock From the Sun or Wilma in this summer's The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, there's something otherworldly about Kristen Johnston. But in her work for gay causes, she keeps both feet on the ground: delivering meals to homebound people with AIDS, participating in six AIDS walks, and taking to the streets after Matthew Shepard's death.
"My feeling," she says simply, "is that I don't have to be gay to give a shit about my gay friends' lives."
