Taxpayer funds to abstinence-only programs - Worth Noting - Brief Article

Humanist,  July-August, 2002  by Karen Ann Gajewski

* The American Civil Liberties Union is currently challenging the Louisiana Governor's Program on Abstinence. Funded by government money, the program proclaims that "it's time to restore our Judeo-Christian heritage in America" and grants thousands of dollars to fund "Christ-centered" theater skits and radio shows that "share abstinence as part of the gospel message." According to the ACLU, the federal government currently provides more than $100 million a year in taxpayer funds to abstinence-only programs, while programs that emphasize abstinence but also teach about contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases aren't even eligible for this money.
