UniWorld ad agency celebrates silver anniversary with new Ford, Burger King assignments
Jet, Feb 28, 1994
UniWorld Group, Inc., the New York-based advertising firm that is the nation's largest Black-owned and operated ad agency, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an unprecedented Burger King creative assignment and a major new account, Ford.
While UniWorld had provided services for Burger King Corporation for advertising aimed at Blacks since 1983, the agency was recently awarded the interim general market creative assignment. Industry insiders said naming an ethnic agency to a national account is an unprecedented move.
In another rare move, UniWorld, which has handled Black and Hispanic advertising for the Lincoln-Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company since 1985, was awarded the Black advertising account for the Ford Division. The new assignment means UniWorld will handle all advertising, media placement and promotion activities for the Black consumer market.
In celebrating the silver anniversary of UniWorld, Lewis said, "We're quite proud of these accomplishments and our ongoing relationship with all of our clients."
Lewis noted, "Traditionally, UniWorld has been limited to performing services solely within the African-American market, even though all of our professional staff acquired their skills in mainstream Madison Avenue agencies." He commended Burger King and Ford for having the 'courage to break the mold' and award their assignments to a Black advertising agency with a proven track record.
