Revitalizing Louisiana
Xavier University President Dr. Norman Francis (I) and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson (c) enjoy a moment with Walter Leger, chairman of the Louisiana Recovery Authority's housing task force, after a news conference in New Orleans announcing the government's approval of $4.6 billion in homeowner assistance to hurricane victims in Louisiana. The funding, provided through HUD's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, will offer up to $150,000 to eligible homeowners whose primary residence was destroyed or severely damaged following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The funding is part of $6.2 billion in CDBG assistance that Jackson allocated to Louisiana in January to assist the state in its long-term recovery efforts.
