Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame honors cast and crew of tv show 'Girlfriends' during gala

The Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame, Inc. (BFHFI) recently honored the cast and production of the Paramount & UPN Network's hit television series "Girlfriends" for its outstanding performance and production and for its positive presence, influence and portrayal of African-Americans in film, television and video.
"Girlfriends" co-stars Golden Brooks, Reggie Hayes, Tracee Ellis Ross, Persia White, Jill Marie Jones, producer Regina Hicks and costume designer Stacy Beverly were honored during BFHFI's inaugural gala, "Behind The Scenes of Film, Television and Video," at the Oakland Marriott City Center in Oakland, CA.
Kevin Brown, program director of Oakland's KBLX, was the host of the evening. Guests enjoyed a lavish dinner and danced to the sounds of jazz band Kahlil Sheed.
BFHFI was proud to present the event, where Oakland City Council-member Larry Reid declared May 6 "Girlfriends'" Day.
"Girlfriends" is in its 5th season and recently celebrated its 100th episode. The popular comedy provides an open, honest exploration of the hot-button issues about family, friends, relationships and life facing women today.
With fearlessness and sincerity, the show takes on universal issues that appeal to all women. Whether it's learning to date after divorce or balancing friendships and a new marriage, "Girlfriends" treats them all with tenderness, care and respect.
The series has been recognized with numerous awards, including three consecutive NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series.
The Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame, Inc. was created and developed in 1973 and has continued to carry out its mission to advocate for more diverse images of Blacks in film and television by helping nurture the talents of aspiring and emerging film and video artists. Proceeds from the event are used for film education and scholarship programs.
