Spot The Laptop - discreet carrying bags for laptop computers - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine,  June, 2001  by Catherine Siskos

To throw computer thieves off the scent, laptop cases are going incognito, with more disguises than a Cold War spy. Cases now take the form of backpacks, satchels and tall, slim shoulder bags that stow computers vertically in a special secure compartment.

"Bags don't have to say `steal me' anymore," says Cory Barnes, president of Spire USA (www.spireusa.com), an online retailer with a large assortment of camouflage laptop bags ranging in price from $30 to $150. Rand McNally's Travel Store (www.randmcnally.com) also sells a backpack-style version for about $100.
