People you should know

PSA Journal,  Jan, 2006  by LaVonna Hitz

This month we introduce Mark Aksoy, research scientist and now a pharmacologist at Temple University in Philadelphia. His interest in photography came about as it has for many, when his father gave him a Kodak Retina camera and he used it on family vacations. He has held many positions in local camera clubs, has led one of PSA's online EID Study Groups for two years and enjoys photographic judging. As a result he has distilled his own thoughts on how to judge photos. He states: "With all the tools available to us, digital and otherwise, it is important to remember that the final product is still a work of art, something aesthetically pleasing or that perhaps shows some aspect of the human condition in a new light."

We also highlight Dan Heidel, FPSA. Dan has been a member of PSA for 38- plus very active years. He has served the Division in many different ways. He was Assistant Director of five different Portfolios (PF's) from 1958 through 2002--serving them well. He served as commentator of PF #21 from 1976 to 1980 and PF Mini #3 from 1984 to the present time. He was Director of the PPD Permanent Print Collection from 1980 to 1984; Director of PPD International Programs in 1986, and from 1994 to 1996. He served as Director of the PPD Honors and Service Awards from 1997 through 2001. Dan has been recognized many times for his activities and work for the Society. He received the Meritorious Award in 1961 and again in 1993. He was awarded the Commendation in 1988. He was given the Outstanding Award in 1972. In the year 2002 he was awarded the Service Medal for all the work he has done and the many services he has performed during his 38 years of membership. It is with great pleasure the Pictorial Print Division recognizes Dan Heidel of Boise. Idaho, as a Person You Should Know.
