On paper, this film has all the elements of a classic: Oscar-winners Robert De Niro and Frances McDormand, the promising James Franco and Eliza Dushku, romance, betrayal, redemption, cops, drugs and murder. Onscreen, it's a mess. The filmmakers seem to have spent more time ensuring the movie contained every last cliche in the book instead of creating an environment in which this formidable cast could flourish.
