Black And White. - Brief Article - movie review

Interview,  April, 2000  by Graham Fuller

Directed by James Toback

Why do middle-class white kids obsess over hip-hop? That's the question asked but not answered by this rambling New York story, which begins with three-way white-on-black sex in Central Park and climaxes with a white-on-black clubland rubout. Toback's murky docudrama style is at odds with the movie's star turns, although Brooke Shields (as a slumming filmmaker), Robert Downey, Jr. (her gay hubby), Claudia Schiffer (a bitch), and especially Ben Stiller (a sneaky cop) are fun, and Mike Tyson (playing himself) is a curiosity.
