Palindromes:

Interview,  April, 2005  by Danielle Pergament

REVIEW: PALINDROMES

(Wellspring) Directed by Todd Solondz

This fourth film from writer-director Todd Solondz tackles the issue of abortion through the story of Aviva, an adolescent girl on a hell-bent mission to be a mother. Our bashful 13-year-old heroine is played--with startling convincingness--by eight different actors of varying sizes, races, and ages. The device does more than stimulate our synapses; it forces us to confront our own prejudices. In the director's world, despair is inescapable, and no one can dodge his ire--not the pro-choicers, not the right-to-lifers, nor for that matter, the audience itself. Danielle Pergament
