Layer Cake

Interview,  April, 2005  by Doug Levy

REVIEW: LAYER CAKE

(Sony Pictures Classics) Directed by Matthew Vaughn

From first-time director Matthew Vaughn, the producer of Guy Ritchie's hits (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch) and misses (Swept Away), comes a slick, stylish British crime drama about a dapper, savvy drug dealer (Daniel Craig) whose plans for early retirement are scuttled by a winsome new love (Sienna Miller) and his inability to walk away from one last job. Craig is riveting as a troubled antihero, and with understated camera work and superior performances by his ensemble cast, Vaughn serves up one delicious thriller. Doug Levy
