Fever Pitch

Interview,  April, 2005  by Sarah Wilson

PREVIEW: FEVER PITCH

(20th Century Fox) Directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly

In this romantic comedy, an Americanized adaptation of Fever Pitch, Nick Hornby's 1994 novel about an overzealous soccer fan, Jimmy Fallon stars as a hard-core Red Sox devotee, and Drew Barrymore plays the woman who loves him. Ali's fine and dandy until baseball season begins and Fallon's character is forced to choose between love and sports. Will Barrymore get benched? The film originally had a bittersweet conclusion, which was reshot when the Red Sox rose from the dead to win the World Series, ending an 86-year drought. The question is, does it take a genuine miracle to end the Farrellys' streak of flops? Sarah Wilson
