Animal Factory. - Review - movie review

Interview,  Nov, 2000  by G. Flatley

Directed by Steve Buscemi

Middle-class white boys seldom end up behind bars for peddling weed. Perhaps that's why pale, mopey Edward Furlong seems so out of place in this alternately gripping and flaccid melodrama. In truth, there's plenty to mope about. Furlong's cellmate (Mickey Rourke in satin and lace and tons of Max Factor) wants to be his Queen Mother, and the jerk in the john (Tom Arnold) plans to make him his jane. Why bother visiting this slammer? To savor the magnetism of the cool, strikingly bald Willem Dafoe as a hardened con with a soft spot for the new kid on the cell block.
