AN ATTIC OF ONE'S OWN?
Dear Interview,
September's feature on first-time novelists ["The First Time"] was a great fresh approach to the tired old book review. You endorse the books as good reads by featuring the writers, and we get to see the faces and thoughts behind all that fresh prose. Shucks, if all authors are this cute and photogenic, they shouldn't stay locked away in their little writer's attics all the time.

CLOAK AND CHLOE
Dear Interview,
Your September cover subject, Chloe Sevigny, has the sloe-eyed gaze of someone with a few secrets ... or at least a few tricks up her much-discussed fashion-forward sleeves. What I don't quite get is why she's so revered by the fashion flock. It's one thing for her to use her status as a "cool girl" to help out her friends and fledgling designers Tara [Subkoff] and Matt [Damhave]; it's quite another to see established designers who should be confident of their talents slobbering after her like wolves on the trail of Little Red Riding Hood's crumbs.

THE ADONIS COLLECTION
Dear Interview,
Thanks for the hilarious and inspired ode to the hombres of daytime (and occasional nighttime) television ["Soap Studs," September]. I don't know that I'll be staying home from work to study these young bucks more closely on the small screen, but I certainly got a chuckle from the little write-ups you did for each one, not to mention endless (well, maybe not quite endless) pleasure from their fetching photos. Only you guys would think to throw Renee Zellweger into this mix for the much-hyped Nurse Betty. It was the perfect way to cover the film (saw it-didn't like it). Thanks for the testosterone injection.

EVERYBODY'S A CRITIC
Dear Interview,
The only thing that Dimitri Ehrlich got right in his trashing of the new Everclear album ["Sound Advice," September] was Art Alexakis' technical mastery. His musicianship, however, augments-not detracts from-what is surely one of the year's most honest and cohesive albums. On it, Alexakis does not wear his heart on his sleeve so much as rip his heart out, dissect it, and say, "Here, check out that left ventricle." That he could convert such obvious pain into such an uplifting album testifies to his artistry, and Interview readers should not be deprived of the joy they will derive from listening to it.

THE ENEMY OF BLAND
Dear Interview,
How sweet it is to see Bjork grace the pages of Interview once again! As any Bjork fan knows, she is the creator of some of the most unique sounds in the music industry today. She takes people away from the horrors of today's popular yet bland music. So naturally a movie is a big step in her career. Great interview with Tim Noble and Sue Webster also, and more, please, on Damien Hirst. If these artists get any crazier ideas, their heads will burst...

AND THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE...
In the September issue, we challenged our readers to test your star-spotting ability, asking you to identify the disguised subjects featured in five images from Peggy Sirota's recently released book Guess Who? The response was immediate and overwhelming-apparently there's no fooling you with a pair of sunglasses and a baseball cap! Unfortunately, however, there can only be ten winners; the first to write in with the correct answers are as follows:
Alex Leeber Carson City, NV
Rick Escueta Burbank, CA
PK Jones-Templeton Dallas, TX
Eileen Kwo Boulder, CO
Gerard Bertolino Houston, TX
V.J. Villanueva New York, NY
MJ Stigliano Rahway, NJ
Julie Dunker Rio Rancho, NM
Leslie Fitzpatrick Brooklyn, NY
Kelly Ann Nutter Midland, TX
If you'd like to see how well you did, or if you're just curious about the obscured identities of the subjects in the portraits, their true identities are listed below:
Tom Cruise
Madonna
Jack Nicholson
Mia Farrow
Tom Hanks
