Ever the garage-rock lover, Adams owes a serious debt to the Rolling Stones and the Replacements, as this third outing makes abundantly evident: Catchy, crunchy Paul Westerberg-ish anthems ("Do Miss America") mix with vintage-Stones blues-rock (the chugging "Shallow") amidst a bevy of Bic lighter moments.
The alt-country poster boy does indeed get his rock on, but that doesn't mean he is no longer crying in his beer, as his quivering, wounded-bird vocals on "Anybody Wanna Take Me Home?" so clearly attest.
