My Best Friend

Interview,  August, 2007  by Michael Koresky

Review: MY BEST FRIEND (IFC) Directed by Patrice Leconte

Popular French director Patrice Leconte (The Girl on the Bridge, 1999; The Widow of Saint-Pierre, 2000) returns with this mildly amusing trifle about an awkward, unlikable art dealer (Daniel Auteuil, natch) who enters into a pricey bet with his business partner (Julie Gayet): He must prove that he has a best friend in 10 days. In trying to locate a friend--any friend--he enlists the help of outgoing cabdriver Bruno (Dany Boon), with whom he strikes up a rapport. The predictably plotted My Best Friend evaporates once it's over, but its good-natured twist on the buddy film makes for a diverting 90 minutes.
