Infamous

Interview,  Oct, 2006  by Mark Olsen

Review: INFAMOUS (Warner Independent) Directed by Douglas McGrath

It may seem unfair to tag Infamous as the "other" movie about Truman Capote, but circumstances make it unavoidable. Largely covering the same period as Bennett Miller's Capote, which was released just last year, this go-round--starring British actor Toby Jones as the writer--is distinguished only by the glancing attention it pays to his New York society life and its brand-name cast, which includes Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee and (new James Bond) Daniel Craig as killer Perry Smith. Immersing himself in Capote's famed mannerisms, Jones portrays him as a wan elf in danger of being swallowed whole by every overcoat and couch, but fails to get near the author's tortured soul.
