Mutual Appreciation

Interview,  Oct, 2006  by Michael Koresky

Review: MUTUAL APPRECIATION (Goodbye Cruel) Directed by Andrew Bujalski

Buzzing just below the radar for years now while simultaneously accruing a significant cult following, Boston native Andrew Bujalski has already become one of the most acclaimed independent filmmakers of the decade. His debut, last year's Funny Ha Ha, was little seen, yet put forth an utterly unique look at a wayward postcollegiate generation looking for love and work. His follow-up, Mutual Appreciation--about a lackadaisical love triangle set amid the shabby Shangri-la of modern-day Williamsburg, Brooklyn--is as bargain-basement cheap as it is waggishly charming.
