Teddybears: Soft Machine

Interview,  Oct, 2006  by Justin Conner

(Big Beat/Atlantic)

Bear-costume-wearing Swedish trio Teddybears want to get people going on the dance floor--as well as on bars and tabletops. The band, composed of brothers Jocke and Klas Ahlund and Patrik Arve, program drum machines, play electric guitars, and DJ along with some impressive collaborators. Their American debut, Soft Machine, is an addictively upbeat medley of styles from Jamaican dancehall to house and electronica, featuring appearances from Elephant Man, Mad Cobra, Iggy Pop, and '90s "Buffalo Stance" booty-shaker Neneh Cherry. Sprinkled with disco claps and spacey, sped-up sequences, the record is a total crowd pleaser.
