The Rapture: Pieces of the People We Love

Interview,  Oct, 2006  by Matt Diehl

(Universal Motown)

"People don't dance no more" laments Rapture singer Mattie Safer on "Whoo! Alright-Yeah ...," a typically propulsive track off the band's new album, Pieces of the People We Love. Maybe the people whom Safer is talking about were just waiting for the Rapture to release another record: Despite the absence here of cult producers DFA (who helmed the Rapture's hyped-up 2003 album Echoes), this album well represents the state-of-the-art dance funk that the New York City combo has perfected. And despite the presence of new studio collaborators like Danger Mouse, this is the Rapture as we know them and love them: honking bass, spooky dub effects, and insistent rhythms define the groove.
