Justin Timberlake: FutureSex/LoveSounds

Interview,  Oct, 2006  by Justin Conner

(Jive)

With this follow-up to 2002's multiplatinum Justified, Justin Timberlake takes on all the haters and skeptics--and takes up the challenge of keeping things loose, fun, and sexy. Grinding synth waves buoy JT's distorted voice on tracks like the first single, "SexyBack," which reflects a nostalgia for postpunk-infused '80s pop, while heavy club beats and drum machines intensify the already outsized musical palette. Mostly produced by Timbaland, the album taps into electroclash, disco, and gospel, remixing and matching old sounds to make them modern. The tracks on FutureSex/LoveSounds are also for the most part longer than your average pop song and often include interludes and preludes, allowing Timberlake to flex his muscles and breathe ... a little.
