We extend our hearty congratulations to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of Tontitown, Ark., on the birth of their 16th child

National Review,  Nov 21, 2005

We extend our hearty congratulations to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of Tontitown, Ark., on the birth of their 16th child. Mr. Duggar supports his family--he is a real-estate salesman, and a former state representative--and the Duggar children are homeschooled. They seem, to judge from the news pictures, to be well fed, well clothed, well housed, and healthy.

Naturally this was all too much for some observers. Conspicuous among the Duggar-demonizers was San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford, who deplored the "values of the homophobic asexual [sic] Christian right" that, according to him, the family represents. But we see no reason that anyone not hopelessly alienated from normal human instincts, desires, and affections should not join this magazine in applauding the Duggars, and wishing them well.
