Men like to send them, too

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Dec, 2007

Everyone enjoys receiving holiday cards, but who likes to send them? A national survey released by CardStore.com found that 69.8% of Americans send cards and that spreading cheer through the mail often comes from an unlikely source: men. The survey reveals that 66.9% of men do so--close to the number of women who send cards (72.6%). Moreover, it turns out that Northeasterners (78.7%) are more likely to send cards than Southerners (64.5%).

Many of the survey respondents had plenty of holiday hellos to get out: 22% send more than 50 cards and 37.9% mail 26-49 missives. Of those who do not send (30.1%), many say they ran out of time or were too busy. Other popular reasons include the high cost of cards or that respondents simply do not celebrate the holidays.

The survey also shows that holiday card giving is popular in all age groups: 57.7% of 18- to 24-year-olds report that they send, while 62.3% of 25- to 34-year-olds and 83% of those over age 65 participate in the tradition.
