Tarantula—the big and hairy kind—on the loose

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  March, 2006

Just the thought of a large, hairy tarantula can give some of us the creeps. Did you know that, in addition to eight legs, these meat-eating creatures have eight eyes, as well as the fact that there are more than 300 species, some of which can live more than 30 years? Their powerful mouths and venomous fangs prey on small reptiles, insects, birds, and even other spiders and, with two tiny claws on each leg, they can inject a chemical that dissolves flesh.

This may be way more information than you were looking for, but, remember, forewarned is forearmed! Our home has been invaded by tarantulas! Relax; we're talking about the radio controlled type. New from Takara USA, New York, N.Y., is the RC Tarantula. Kids are terrorizing neighborhoods coast to coast with these "pets," as each leg functions separately, leading to very realistic-looking movement.

For some cleaner action, try Takara's Party Fountain for a splash of fun at bathtime. This floating toy navigates the tub or pool by moving, swimming, and squirting water. Kids will delight in soaking with the Green or Red Frog, Blue or Orange Whale, or Pink or Purple Flower.
