Type II diabetics

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Feb, 2006

Type II diabetics who take two drugs (metformin and thiazolidinedione) in combination with insulin effectively can regulate their blood-sugar levels without the common side effect of weight gain, according to a study by researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas. Type II diabetics who use drug therapy typically take insulin and only one drug.

Those patients often reduce their blood sugar below the seven percent limit suggested by the American Diabetes Association, Alexandria, Va. However, they also tend to gain weight and often have to increase their insulin doses.
