Don't waste gas by getting lost

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Jan, 2006

Drivers can do very little about the price of gas, but they can do plenty to extend their mileage and save money. The first thing is to "know where you're going" with accurate and updated directions, which are available in the 2006 Road Atlas ($14.95) from American Map, Long Island City, N.Y. These map-makers are so sure they'll save consumers money at the pump that they offer a money back guarantee if you get lost due to an inaccuracy.

"With so much roadwork on the nation's major highways, drivers should keep an atlas handy in their cars so they can map out alternate routes and not sit in traffic with their engines running over long periods of time," says Marc Jennings, president of the American Map/Langenscheidt Publishing Group. "You never know when you'll need directions, and most people can't access electronic mapping from their cars. This is just one simple way to conserve at a time when we need all the help regarding road travel that we can find. Our atlases provide mileage charts, so drivers can plan out how many miles they'll be traveling at a stretch, helping gauge the budget for the trip."

The Large Format U.S. Road Atlas, meanwhile, features colorful, easy-to-read road maps of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Turn to the state you need and you will find your route, along with inset detail maps of all major cities. With colorful digital cartography and subtle 3-D elevation shading, the Atlas provides plenty of maps and information, plus eight pages of interesting drives and adventures.

Additional features include a highly articulated road network; scenic routes; on-page locator map and mileage table for major cities; comprehensive index with statistical data; interstate map; and national parks finder map.
