Lighted slippers that think on their feet
USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Jan, 2006
At one time or another, everyone awakens at night, fumbles about the room or hallway, perhaps bumping their head or groggily kicking a doorframe or stepping on the dog. Turning on the light will wake up the kids or your spouse. What to do?
Now you can take an illuminated new step with BrightFeet Lighted Slippers ($39.95) from Boston Ideas, LLC. Ideal for nighttime trips to the bathroom, kitchen, kids' rooms, or anywhere else in the house, each slipper is tipped with a light-emitting diode to show you the way through the dark. Angled upward for optimum projection of light, the LEDs easily illuminate an area 20-25 feet in front of the wearer.
In a power outage, use BrightFeet to locate candles, flashlights, and other emergency light sources.
BrightFeet slippers also think on their feet. A computer chip manages two sensors that instruct the slipper LEDs when to turn on and off. The light sensor alerts the LED to come on only when it recognizes darkness. This minimizes the possibility that they will activate in lighted areas, significantly extending the battery life. Two lithium batteries are included in each slipper.
A second weight sensor in the sole of the slipper ensures that the LEDs come on only when the slipper is being worn. After removing them, a built-in timer delays the lights from shutting off to allow you to see your way safely back to bed.
During BrightFeet's design phase, comfort and appearance were emphasized. The results are a comfortable slipper, available in colors of blue, black, and beige, and three unisex sizes that fit men and women. The technology and sensors are completely hidden by layers of comfort.
If there's another product out there with this much "Wow! factor," we'd sure like to see it. For more information about BrightFeet, call 877-723-6826 or visit www.brightfeetslippers.com.
