Breast Cancer Awareness Month
USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Oct, 2005
The York Peppermint Pattie with the dark chocolate outside and well-known peppermint center will debut a new color in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month--pink. The Limited Edition York Peppermint Patties feature pink centers and pink foil wrappers. Moreover, York--as part of the Hershey Company--will make a $125,000 donation to the Young Survival Coalition, an international, nonprofit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women and breast cancer.
To further build awareness and promote the well-being of women nationwide, York will sponsor the Young Survival Coalition's annual Tour de Pink bike ride, a 250-mile event that starts Oct. 14 from Hershey's Times Square store in New York and ends three days later in Hershey, Pa.
On another donation front, Prince Sports, Inc., Bordentown, N.J., likewise is joining the fight against breast cancer with the introduction of its latest limited edition line of racquets, string, and gear--Think Pink. Last winter, Prince launched the Lightning XX Pink String in support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Now comes the Think Pink line, which includes the [O.sup.3] racquet, Micro Tac OverGrip, Handbag, Dampening Jar, and Visor.
Through February, 2006, Prince will donate 15% of the wholesale price for each Lightning XX Pink String package and five percent of all other Think Pink items sold to retailers to the Komen Foundation to help fund research grants, educational support, as well as screening and treatment projects in communities around the world. In addition, Prince will be auctioning off an "[O.sup.3] in the City" poster signed by some of the nation's top touring pros.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women age 15-40.
