The revised guidelines for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension caution against the use of calcium channel blockers—used to combat high blood pressure—in unstable patients

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Oct, 2005

The revised guidelines for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension caution against the use of calcium channel blockers--used to combat high blood pressure--in unstable patients. "When they are used in patients with PAH whose narrowed pulmonary arteries are not caused by dynamic vessel constriction, the side effects can be fatal," explains Lewis J.

Rubin, University of California San Diego School of Medicine, La Jolla.
