Diseases that are transmitted human to human are more of a concern for health officials in New Orleans than those spread by insects and other animals, maintains an epidemiologist at the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, West Lafayette, Ind. "We need to focus our concern on the diseases people wilt get from contact with other people who are moving from place to place.
The most serious threats will be measles, whooping cough, common colds, or the flu due to the unusual amount of interaction among strangers," warns Larry Glickman.
