Clean indoor air—for real

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Sept, 2005

Each year, Americans spend billions of dollars to make their homes smell fresh and clean. The problem is that most of these air freshener products simply mask odors without removing them from the air. To really improve indoor air quality, try the Bionaire PERMAtech Ionizing Air Cleaner from The Holmes Group, Milford, Mass. This sleek and stylish slim tower is the first of its kind to offer HEPA-type filtration with an easy-to-clean filter that never needs replacement.

The high-efficiency filter removes up to 99% of airborne dust and pollen smaller than two microns from the air. It also helps reduce smoke, mold spores, and pet dander. The independent ionizer releases negative ions which join with positively charged particles to form larger ones that are more readily captured by the filter.

Three cleaning levels provide options for every condition: High, when air quality is poor; Medium, for continuous use; and Low, for quieter operation. In addition, a remote control allows operation of the unit from anywhere in the room. Moreover, it oscillates to improve circulation of the filtered air.

A washable foam pre-filter captures larger particles and extends the cleaning cycle of the Permatech filter, which has a unique service indicator to alert you when it needs vacuuming--approximately every three months. The filter also employs the antimicrobial protection of Microban to fight odor-causing bacteria.

The Bionaire PERMAtech Ionizing Air Cleaner ($179.99) is recommended for use in medium-size rooms, up to 13' x 13'. For more information, visit www.holmesproducts.com.
