Today's traditional electric utilities may become outmoded over the next 30 years, Wayne A, English, an expert in nuclear engineering and electricity distribution, told the World Future Society, Bethesda, Md. Energy from wind farms, photovoltaic cells, wave generators, hydrogen, and even animal manure could reduce the number of traditional electric utility customers.
"The competition will not be against other utilities, [rather] against new technology," English contends.
