Now that makes scents

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Nov, 2004

A revolutionary twist in home fragrance has arrived for the holidays. Scentstories, from Proctor & Gamble's Febreze, Cincinnati, Ohio, is a specially designed disc player that will have your house, apartment, or office smelling better than ever.

The concept is ingenious. Just like a CD player, Scentstories allows you to play scents the same way you would music. Select one of six scented discs, insert it, close the lid, and press "play." A whisper-quiet fan then circulates five scents--one every 30 minutes--over the course of two hours. The player shuts off automatically after all five scents have been played. You can stop the player or skip through the scent tracks at any time. Discs are inter-changeable and reusable. Each lasts for 20 plays or 50 hours.

Inside each disc, scent pockets contain gel-grade perfume. Once in the player, the packets heat and the perfume is released. You also can select the intensity of the scent desired.

The discs and their scents include:

* Wandering barefoot on the shore (walking in the soft sand, under the swaying palms, wading along the shore, splashing in the waves, sailing in the bay).

* Exploring a mountain trail (following the winding creek, walking beside wildflowers, exploring the mountains, high in the mountain pass, gazing at the tall firs).

* Relaxing in a hammock (soothing tea, dew drops on petals, comforted with lavender, meditating with incense, tranquil vanilla).

* Strolling through the garden (strolling by lilacs, picking peachy freesias, making a bouquet, beside the honeysuckle, among the roses).

* Shades of vanilla (creamy vanilla, vanilla nut cake, French vanilla, vanilla nectar, vanilla taffy).

Plus, there's the just-released "celebrate the holidays" disc, with more expected in the New Year. The starter kit ($34.99) includes a player and one disc. Additional discs are $5.99. It sure looks to be a scents-sational holiday season.
