Buster Brown a century later
USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Nov, 2004
"That's my dog Tige; he lives in a shoe. I'm Buster Brown, look for me in there, too" Gosh, talk about memories. You would be hard-pressed to find a baby boomer who doesn't recall that commercial slogan--or one who didn't own Buster Brown shoes as a kid. Introduced at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, Buster Brown turns 100 this year, and is celebrating with a new centennial line of shoes. And, to be sure, they certainly have evolved from yesteryear's simple brown and buckled versions to the latest in fashion and function.
"With you every step of the way" is the promise printed on the shoebox. The Kids Fit System includes a heel-cushioning gel pad; soft cradling heel cup, shock-absorbing sock lining, and supportive, padded arch cookie.
With our trio just the right age for the Buster Brown experience--all in elementary school--we send them off daily in a Girls Mary Jane, Boys Oxford, and Boys Boot, respectively. If only picking out their clothes were so easy.
Buster Brown shoes from the Brown Shoe Company, Inc., St. Louis, Mo., are available wherever footwear is sold. Visit www.buster-brownshoas.com or www.brownshoe.com for more information.
