All hail Hasbro!
USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Nov, 2004
Prompted by the runaway success of VideoNow--the first-ever kid-friendly portable, personable video player, Hasbro, Inc., Pawtucket, R.I., has taken it up a notch with VideoNow Color ($75). It offers the hottest names in children's entertainment, featuring popular titles from Nickelodeon, including "SpongeBob SquarePants," "The Amanda Show" "Fairly Odd Parents," and "Jimmy Neutron," as well as new episodes from Fox's "American Idol," TLC's "Trading Spaces" and ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" (what, no CBS and "Joan of Arcadia"?). Video discs run $8.99 a piece while a three-pack fetches $16.99.
Continuing on the personal player theme, Hasbro has Play It Now ($29.99), a StyliSh, pecker-size portable unit that is especially popular with teenagers. It can record 30 minutes of music digitally--and allows users to play six classic arcade-style games while they listen to their recordings. It comes with a removable belt clip and earbuds.
For those with younger children, The Incredible Mr. Incredible's real-feel skin and voice capabilities will make it seem like there's a genuine crime fighter right in your home--all for $24.99. Push down on his belt buckle and watch his mouth open and close as he utters signature phrases from the popular Disney/Pixar movie. Push a little harder and watch his chest flex as he shouts.
For toddlers, there's Dance Along Boohbah ($29.99)--with moving heads, arms, and bellies-from the new series airing on PBS. Each of the five Boohbahs feature six silly songs and 11 unique dances true to the character's endearing, whimsical personality.
Who could forget the slogan, "Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down!"? The folks at Playskool have reintroduced this delightful line of toddler toys which are all about motion and fun. The Weebleville Town Center ($34.99) is sure to excite any young one with its slippery slide, spinning stop light, and crazy clocktower. It comes with three Weebles: Pendleton Wrong-righter, Tibby Wobnobbin, and Bumpus Wobbleworks. Additional figures are available, with sets of three running $4.99.
