Homeland security expands abroad

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  Sept, 2004

Focusing on the need for continuing cooperation among international private sector interests in developing and building defensive technologies and methodologies in the global war against terrorism, the Homeland Security Industries Association (HSIA) will form chapters in Greece and Turkey this autumn, adding to its international outposts in Canada and Israel.

The new entities help make sure "that global security issues receive the very highest levels of industry attention, interaction, and collaboration as all nations unite to fight the growing threat from terrorism;' declares Yalcin Baran of Silk Road Capital Investments, an HSIA member.

The Homeland Security Industries Association, based in Washington, D.C., represents companies, organizations, and individuals that provide products, services, technology, training, and intellectual leadership to public and private sector institutions charged with implementing homeland security policy. HSIA aims to serve as a bridge between its members and Federal, state, county, and municipal government entities in the U.S. and elsewhere.

"HSIA is in a unique position to build a worldwide network of industry expertise to counsel government policymakers in the U.S. and elsewhere on what products, services, and expertise are available to employ in mitigating risks from terror," says President Bruce Aitken. "We plan chapters in Asia, South America, and elsewhere in Europe to encourage this high-level exchange."
