Crossing the great laser line - What's New? - Strait-Line Laser Tools - Brief Article - Product/Service Evaluation
USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), March, 2004
There's a fine line between good and great.... Prepare to cross that line. Now do-it-yourselfers can mark their projects with laser accuracy using the cutting-edge technology of Strait-Line, Huntersville, N.C., part of the Rubbermaid family of brand-name products. With three comprehensive tools for measuring, leveling, and locating studs, completing projects will be a snap:
Laser Tape ($59): There's no need to use cumbersome manual measuring tapes anymore--just point and push the "Read" button. A laser beam pinpoints the surface to measure and the Laser Tape instantly calculates the distance. It's the simplest way to take a quick measurement ranging from two to 50 feet. And, with the push of a button, you can calculate area and volume, convert feet into meters, and add to or recall memory.
Laser Stud Finder ($25): Using a pen or pencil to mark stud locations is a thing of the past as this beauty can scan depths up to 1 1/2" to find wood or metal. It also features auto calibration, operating independently or with the Laser Level.
Laser Level ($59): A concise and accurate beam of light for assists in installing shelving and molding, aligning pictures, hanging wallpaper, or laying tile. Thanks to a new lens design, the laser line's sharpness, consistency, and quality are enhanced, projecting energy in a tighter path over a 20' distance. You also can add an Adhesive Swivel Base ($14.99), which has a two-axis adjustment for leveling and turning the laser line. The Base allows for hands-free operation of the Laser Level on hard, dense material such as tile laminates, brick, glass, hardwood, and steel. The 3M Command adhesive strips secure the tool to decorative and finished surfaces without marring or using pens.
Strait-Line Laser Tools can be found at hardware stores, discount outlets, and home centers.
