Log choices - ical - What's new? Holiday gifts galore - Wood-Links Building Blocks - Brief Article
USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Nov, 2002
As building toys become more and more sophisticated, it's nice to turn back to traditional and simpler materials for playtime construction. Among the old standbys are notched logs, perfect for erecting cabins, ranch houses, barns, and other rustic structures. Roy Toy Manufacturing, Machias, Me., putting a slightly new spin on an old favorite, has just the logs for the job. Its Wood-Links Building Blocks, by introducing colored logs, roofs, chimneys, etc., brightens everything up, though there are plenty of the usual brown ones on hand, too.
There are a multitude of kits of various sizes, following the usual rubric that the more pieces there are, the more (or bigger) things you can build. A good place to start is with the 120-piece Farm Set ($14.99), more than enough to throw up a silo, corral, and fences in addition to a sturdy barn. For that matter, the set works just as well if you are raising a fort or building a tree house (alas, a toy one, rather than the real thing!).
There are no bells and whistles or hi-tech electronics, just good old-fashioned fun. You'll find that's more than enough.
