It's not too late for "Summer 101" - Your Life - preventing bites, stings and poison ivy - Brief Article

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education),  May, 2002

If you find yourself covered in mosquito bites, running from bees or wasps, and unable to identify a toxic plant, you are not alone. According to a survey conducted by the Lanacane Itch Information Center, White Plains, N.Y., some people need to brush up on "Summer 101" before Memorial Day weekend.

Almost 50% of the respondents said they receive so many mosquito bites each season they can't count them all, meaning they aren't applying repellent properly. A mere four percent are lucky enough not to receive any bites at all. Despite the old mnemonic "leaves of three, let it be," 60% have no idea how to identify poison ivy, oak, or sumac. Moreover, although 40% know it's best to ignore a bee or wasp, 60% are still swatting, running, or screaming in fear of being stung, actually increasing their chances of having the insect do so.
