A rich discovery
Commonweal, June 17, 2005 by Brian Cruz
As a biologist preparing for medical school, I found William A. Galston's article on stem-cell research quite helpful. I try to remain morally and intellectually informed on questions of bioethics, and while I had encountered Christian arguments on stem-cell research, I knew nothing of the Jewish perspective.
I also thought your May 20 editorial concerning Fr. Thomas Reese's resignation as editor of America was outstanding ("Scandal at America"). What struck me was the appallingly low Catholic readership of intellectual magazines such as Commonweal and America. Being a sporadic reader, at best, who currently does not subscribe to any magazines, I admit that I'm in no place to judge or criticize. Yet I want to thank you for routinely struggling to ask intelligent questions and explore important political and moral issues. I'm always glad for resources that provide guidance for engaging in dialogue, especially when trying to present Catholic arguments to a broader secular world.
