The Art Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke recently unveiled plans for its new building designed by Los Angeles-based architect Randall Scott. The Blue Ridge Mountain city's first art museum built for that purpose will be a $46-million, 75,000-square-foot structure featuring flexible exhibition spaces, an auditorium, a library, office and storage spaces, a gift shop and a cafe.

Groundbreaking is expected this fall with a museum opening date set for 2007.
