More from Sunset: behind the scenes
Sunset, Dec, 2004
To get a magazine packed with holiday inspiration in your hands by December 1, Yvonne Stender, Sunset's style editor, has to look ahead. The doorways starting on page 114, for example, were photographed nearly a year ago to take advantage of seasonal materials and meet our print deadlines. To find the perfect homes to show off our entryway schemes, Yvonne knocked on a lot of doors, asking homeowners to let us take over their front yards for a day.

When she can't find just the right location, Yvonne makes the photo studio look like a home, as she did with our holiday buffet story (page 118). "In both cases, we try to create a scene that the reader can re-create themselves," she says.
