Keep it in scale
Sunset, Dec, 2004
A friend and I visited Sunset's Southern California Idea House in Valencia ("Spanish Moorish Style," October, page 87). We saw a number of lovely treatments, including some beautiful glass doors. However, overall I was disappointed.

What I saw was a house of many single-function rooms, such as the office/casita, the cabana, and the retreat. Why is it necessary to have so many specialized rooms? With affordable housing at historic lows in most regions of the country and open space evaporating, I feel readers would be better served by a home of more conservative scale and eco-friendly sensibility.
